How to Charge More Money

“I’ve got 99 problems but charging more ain’t one.” 

If that’s not how you feel now, that’s how you’ll feel by the time you get done reading this. Money can be an awkward conversation, but when you’re confident in the value you’re providing to your customers or clients, the conversation goes a lot smoother. 

Your clients/customers will be more likely to pay more if they know they’re getting more— this is where your value comes in. Pitching yourself and your value helps your potential clients/customers understand they’re making a worthy investment. 

So what does that look like? You can’t just say “my services are valuable” and expect them to buy it; you need to back it up. Here are a few ways you can prove your value and start making that ‘cash flow’:

Customer Reviews

This is important (so important we have an entire blog post dedicated to it). Not only is this a FREE marketing tool, it’s an effective one. Your previous clients essentially do the Marketing for you by endorsing you and what you have to offer— therefore increasing your value. Don’t be afraid to ask your clients to leave reviews! 

#ProTip: If you’re just starting out and you don’t have any previous clients to give you reviews, do a test project for a friend or family member’s business. Walk them through your process, showcase your skills, and give them your product or service in exchange for experience and their recommendation. You’ll build your portfolio and gain some credibility all at once!


Showcase Previous Work

Whether you’ve had 2 clients or 20, showcasing your work or client projects proves you’re able to do what you say you can do. It visibly shows your expertise and that you can and will deliver on your promises. You can include your work on your website, your social media platforms, an online portfolio platform and/or proposals.

Establish Online Credibility

Let’s say you’re booking a hair appointment at a new salon. They have no social media presence so you can’t see their work or comments from clients. They also don’t have a website so you’re not sure who their stylists are or when they’re open, and the only information you have is a vague business listing on Google. Would that salon be your first choice? Probably not. 

The same rules/requirements apply to you. Websites are important (yes, you need one) and can establish your credibility and legitimacy as a business. Social media works the same way. Establishing an online presence with clear communication and information about your business is key to attracting new customers and standing out among competitors. 

By positioning yourself and your brand as an expert, with a credible reputation and the experience to back it up, you’ll be able to show immense value and charge more for your services. Your clients will see the value you provide, and rather than be turned away by your price point, they’ll understand why you’re worth it.
