Which Social Media Platform Should You Use For Your Business?

It’s a new year and we’re feeling all things “fresh start”! We’re ready to hit the ground running with new content, helpful resources, and continued client support! Are YOU ready?

To kick the year off, we’re talking about the bane of every marketer’s existence— social media platforms. Social media is an essential tool for business growth, brand awareness, and customer/client connection. Statista reports that 88% of marketers say social media helped increase exposure followed by increasing traffic at 77%. It’s safe to say social media is a huge area of opportunity when used correctly.

As a small business owner, it can be challenging to figure out which platform is the best fit for your business. Many times, people are tempted to be on every platform, doing all the things, posting all time, and wearing themselves out. But that’s not strategic and you’re likely wasting your time (for example, there’s no reason a funeral home needs to have a presence on Snapchat. #SorryNotSorry).

Let’s break down what type of business/industry fits best with which social platform. Keep in mind— this isn’t an exhaustive list but you should still be able to fit yourself into one or two of the categories below.

Facebook

Facebook has been the standard, go-to platform for what feels like ages. This platform is somewhat universal— so if you haven’t set up a Business Account yet, it’s time. Facebook is great for boosting your SEO on Google, which is an added benefit to having a business page. If you’re interested in doing some paid advertisement at some point, Facebook has a built-in Ads Manager which is especially helpful for small businesses.

Instagram

Our personal favorite— the mighty beast that is Instagram. This is a visual-heavyapp with over 1.2 billion users worldwide.. In January 2021, Hootsuite reported Instagram is predominantly made up of 25- to 34-year olds, closely followed by the 18- to 24-year old age group. Similar to Facebook, you can also create a Business Account on this platform, create a Shop within the app, and create branded content.

Since both Instagram and Facebook are owned by the same company, Meta, its cross-posting, unified messaging connection makes it a nice BOGO for brands.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is very similar to Facebook, but focused more on professional connections and interactions. With approximately 690 million users, his platform is great for sharing company news, educational content, job postings, and connecting with other people/businesses in your industry. Keep in mind, only specific content will work on LinkedIn— we don’t recommend posting the same content on Facebook and LinkedIn. As with Facebook and Instagram, you can create a Business Account or page and connect it to your personal account.

We’ll shout it from the rooftops until we’re blue in the face: you must have a social media strategy to make these platforms work for you.
