How to Repurpose Your Content

The daily demands of running a business are non-stop. Pushing marketing tasks such as content creation and social media to the back burner happen more often than not. But what if there were an easier way to produce high-quality content without reinventing the wheel each week? Good news, there is!

By repurposing your existing content, you will not only save time, but according to Hubspot, it may also boost your SEO ranking! When you repurpose content, search engines will recognize that you have several pieces of content centered around similar keywords.

To keep this simple, I’m going to walk you through how my team repurposes content for various platforms. It is a simple, yet effective process that works well for us (and many others)!

Step One: Choose a topic and write a blog post

Make sure the topic you’re choosing fits with the wants and needs of your target audience. For example, TAC(t)’s target audience is small-to-midsize business owners of any stage, so I primarily share Marketing tips and practical advice for business owners/leaders.

Make sure your blog content is strong, well-written, and that it provides value— this is the base of the content!

Step Two: Create a newsletter about your new blog post

Alert your email list you have a new blog post and include links to it throughout your newsletter. I’ll typically pull some snippets from the blog post to include in the newsletter, and write up a short introductory paragraph specifically for my subscribers.

Step Three: Create social media posts.

This step is not as time consuming as it may sound! The first time I share a blog post, I’ll pull some copy from the first paragraph of the blog post and include a “read more” link within the caption. As far as visuals go, I’ll use the blog image to keep things simple (and yes, you need a photo or graphic for every social post you share).

Step Four: Create graphics to share over the next few weeks.

This step requires a little more elbow grease, but the good news is your content is already created— now you just need to visually showcase that. Here’s a few ideas:

  • Pull strong quotes from the blog post and create a quote graphic (here’s an example).

  • If you have a stat-heavy blog post, create an infographic for social media.

  • If you have a list-style blog post, create a post with an overview of each step (here’s an example)— or better yet, break down each step into its own piece of content. If you have five steps, you have five pieces of content ready to go! 

  • Create a graphic with the blog title and include strong copy in your caption (here’s an example).

Are your creative wheels turning yet? There’s an endless amount of opportunity to repurpose content you’ve already created. Additionally, don’t be afraid to share old blog posts a second time! The content you create is valuable and the internet is a fast-moving place. There’s a good chance that some of your followers missed the post the first time.
