Think Your Business is “Too Boring” for Social Media?

Before I really get into it, I need you to know something: your business is not too boring and it is definitely possible to create interesting, engaging content for your business.

If you’re not actively using social media to engage your target market, I understand the whole thing can be a little intimidating. There are all the different platforms, the scheduling, the content strategy piece, and oh, the actual creative, fresh, catchy content that will resonate with your audience.

It can be easy to fall into creative block when it’s time to create new content. To help, I put together three content ideas you can use today!

Giveaway

Hosting a giveaway is a great way to give back to your audience, attract new followers, and increase your engagement.

Facebook and Instagram algorithms use your engagement rate to determine whether or not to show your content to more people. #TheMoreYouKnow

When you’re ready to start your giveaway promotion, invite your followers to participate by following you, commenting, tagging a friend, and/or sharing your post. We recommend keeping it as simple as possible— the more complicated the steps are, the less likely people are to enter your giveaway. Be clear with your directions, set an end date, and make sure you have a game plan for reminding followers to enter throughout the duration of giveaway.

#ProTip: Build up your followers and online presence a little bit before hosting a giveaway. A giveaway is beneficial for growing your audience in a short amount of time, but you want to make sure that you have humans following you to get the ball rolling first.

How-to-Video

We’ve seen a major shift in content from photography/graphics to video – and chances are if you’re a regular social media user, you’ve noticed this as well. (Psst— we have a whole post about it here!) An easy way to start building up your video library: create a simple how-to video. And you don’t need any fancy video equipment either! Position your smartphone in good lighting, check your video settings (make sure you’re filming in 4K and at 30 fps!), use a tripod to keep it in place, and start recording!

You don’t necessarily have to stick to “how-to” videos either. If you have a product or service you can explain in more detail, that’s a great place to start, too! A few other ideas include:

  • Business updates/product launch announcements

  • Behind-the-scenes

  • A Day-in-the-Life

  • Tips related to your business/service

Engage with Your Audience

If you’re ever feeling stuck on what to post, write about, or share, ask your audience. They’re the people you’re creating content for after all! You could ask them to share topics they’re craving to know more about; give you feedback on your business’ blog; or ask what content they would like to see more of. Crowdsourcing is a great way to make sure your content is reimagining helpful, relatable, and valuable.

The beauty (and sometimes difficulty) of social media is that it’s a creative space. Our goal is to share ideas with you that  will help you push through your creative block and inspire you to create more effective content and strategies for your business.
