How To Use LinkedIn For Your Business
If you’re new to the digital world, LinkedIn is essentially the professional version of Facebook. It’s a social media platform specifically for networking, discussion, and job searching. Similar to Facebook and Instagram, you can create a Business Account and use it to grow your brand or business.
Although often underutilized by small businesses, LinkedIn can be a powerhouse for marketing your business, increasing brand awareness, and booking new clients or customers. To help you get the ball rolling, I put together a few tips for using LinkedIn for your business.
Network
Networking online is just as crucial as networking in-person when it comes to growing your business. Carve some time out to connect with other businesses, individuals who show interest in your industry, and industry leaders. Once you’ve established a decent number of connections, put your social pants on and get ready to engage! Comment, like, share, and generally interact with other people and businesses. This is a great way to get your name out there and provide value to your audience.
Optimize Your Profile
LinkedIn, much like other platforms, favors users who utilize its features. Make sure your profile is completely filled out with essential information— LinkedIn will prompt you to do so, which makes this process as easy as possible. Be sure to include keywords relative to your business throughout your profile to boost your search engine optimization (SEO) on LinkedIn.
Show Up Consistently
Don’t just be a silent observer on LinkedIn (or any social platform for that matter). Take networking a step further and contribute your own original content. Here are a few content ideas that are appropriate for LinkedIn:
Industry news related to your business
Behind-the-scenes
Awards and accolades
Business updates or news
Helpful articles or blog posts (bonus points if you write them yourself)
Team updates (new hires, promotions, etc.)
Create A Content Calendar
Listen, I know how it goes— you have every intention of staying active on social media, but your task list seems to constantly get in the way. The solution? A content calendar!
Having a plan set in place will keep you from panic posting just to get something out there, and instead, you’ll have a more strategic approach to sharing and creating content on LinkedIn.
Use a digital calendar or good ol’ fashioned pen and paper and decide how many days per week you’d like to post content (we’d recommend no less than 2x per week). Next, brainstorm topics for each of those dates and then create specific content from those topics. Before you know it, you’ll have content planned for a few weeks or months at a time.
